Music from Memorial University and is currently completing a PhD at the University of Exeter, lan has a diverse background in music, academia and arts administration. In the choral world lan has served as conductor, assistant conductor and accompanist for numerous choirs over the last 10 years as well as being the co-ordinator of FESTIVAL 500: Sharing the Voices, named one of the top 10 choral festivals in the world in 2005.
From 2001 - 2005 lan served as organist and choirmaster of the historic St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in St. John's, Newfoundland. As a pianist he has been active as soloist, collaborative pianist and chamber musician across Canada, being recorded by CBC radio numerous times, as well as making performances in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Currently lan is researching in the Sociology department at the University of Exeter in the SocArts Research Group headed by Professor Tia DeNora. Present research links the disciplines of musicology, music theory and sociology in thinking of composing as a social process. In general lan has a keen interest in how organisations, public and private, affect the cultural sector; and how organisations and their leaders interact with and influence fields and domains at the micro level of artistic production.

Committee/AGM: We have a Committee of five or six choir members who run the everyday business of the choir and take on board members' views. Our AGM is held in January and provides an opportunity not only to elect Officers, to summarise the past year and to plan the next year, but also for choir members to air their views, make suggestions and generally influence the direction of the choir.
