OUR HISTORY
Background: Cantilena was started by a group of friends as an informal singing workshop in 1987. We have since developed into a choir of approximately 30 - 35 members. We are a Registered Charity (No. 900021) and have a simple Constitution.
Our founding Musical Director moved out of the Devon area in 1988 and Robert Gittings took over. Robert is a gifted pianist, clarinettist and music teacher and under his guidance the choir developed enormously in its quality and breadth of repertoire. Robert retired in 2004 and we are now thriving under the direction of Ian Sutherland.
One of the great strengths of Cantilena is that approximately one-third of the members are founder members ... the choir is just too good to leave!
